Building Forensics

Building forensics involves investigations of building construction and building materials for evidential purposes.

Buildings can be constructed with inherent construction defects, poor construction design details and defective or substandard materials. Remediation and ensuing disputes require clear identification of the mechanism and extent of the issue, a reasoned remedial approach scope and comment that shed light on liability. Problematic buildings may present physical and health risks to occupants

A forensic building specialist investigates initially using non-destructive techniques and reviewing building records. Further investigation may involve invasive examination and sampling and assistance from specialists. Much of the equipment used by forensic building specialists has been developed specifically for such work. Forensic building specialists can audit buildings and building processes and routinely provide independent evidential reports used by parties to a dispute
